@snacmachine No, actually. Sega along with other games on the Genesis, if I'm correct, cannot claim copyright on the genesis soundtrack. I believe this is because games back then used the console itself to produce music, thus they all have the ability to use the same instruments and sound similar. So if Sega had a claim on that, capcom, konami and others would be able to counter-claim their music and then everyone gets fucked in the face.

@TheStolken it's also why square could reuse the same music when they released ff4-6 and chrono trigger on playstation without getting sued by nintendo. basically the company owns the music regardless of the hardware it was produced on

@TheStolken The reason the music from Sonic 1 and 2 wasn't reused much until recent games is because it was owned by the guy who composed the songs and Sega had to pay a royalty to use them. That's why they had to use new songs in Sonic 3 like the one in this vid (except for the drowning music which was composed by a guy who worked for sega) also im a gay nerd
