SteamRanger locomotives Rx 207 and 621 shunting at Victor Harbor. 18-9-2011

SteamRanger locomotive Rx 207 is seen shunting the carriages not needed by 621 for a Cockle Train from Victor Harbor to Goolwa and return into the holding road while 621 is turned on the turntable. 621 is then seen arriving back at Victor Harbor after hauling the 2:45pm ex Goolwa Cockle Train.

On Sunday the 18th of September, SteamRanger ran a special Southern Encounter from Mount Barker to Victor Harbor. The train consisted of steam locomotive 621, 5 wooden bodied 'Centenary' passenger carriages and 2 Steel Passenger Carriages, a total weight of over 225t being hauled by 621. Diesel 958 was used as a banker to assist 621 from Mount Barker to Philcox Hill. Diesel 958 was detached at Philcox Hill and 621 took the train through to Strathalbyn and then onto Goolwa where another 3 wooden bodied passenger carriages from the Cockle Train were added to the consist making the train 10 carriages long and weighing over 306t. Steam locomotive Rx 207 added to the front of the train to double head the combined Cockle Train and Southern Encounter to Victor Harbor with 621.

On the 3:45pm ex Victor Harbor combined Cockle Train and Southern Encounter to Goolwa and Mount Barker 621 hauled the 10 carriage train by herself from Victor Harbor to Goolwa. At Goolwa depot the 3 Cockle Train carriages were detached and Rx 207 was attached to the front of 621 to double head the Southern Encounter back to Mount Barker. What resulted was a magic return train trip with Rx 207 and 621 working hard up the Bugle Ranges to the top of Philcox Hill before coasting into Mount Barker. This ended an awesome weekend of trains celebrating 621's 75th birthday.
