'Mirror Mirror On The Wall...'

Kenobi, a juvenile male Australian Hobby (Little Falcon) is introduced to his own reflection for the first time...we don't know what he may be thinking but his behaviour suggests that he understands that he is seeing another male Hobby. He is puffing himself up to look big and tough- saying to the "other" male I am big and strong- don't invade my space! What may be a little confusing is that the "other" male- his reflection- refuses to defer ;-)

That's very cute, but the one thing I've noticed with my birds is how they'll find reflective surfaces ANYWHERE. Be it in chair side-arms, tvs or windows at night. Then again, given his size he's most unlikely to have ever seen himself as a full reflection, and it's interesting that he's well behaved enough to not fight it or mate with it.
