Elegy for the fallen is a new work for strings by English composer Andrew Lowe Watson, in the tradition of Elgar and Vaughan Williams but with a contemporary feel. It received standing ovations from audiences in the US and has also been heard in Israel in a concert by the renowned Israel Chamber Orchestra.
We are grateful to the Chicago Chamber Orchestra and conductor Edward Benyas for the use of their private recording of the Chicago premiere on November 11, 2007, and to Faber and Faber for the use of a quotation from Philip Larkin's poem 'An Arundel Tomb'.
