Chapter 6, Publishing Your Video on Your Computer and On Youtube

Troubleshooting Tips: If your computer has difficulty publishing try: (1) turn it off, reboot, defrag, then try publishing again (2) simplify the complexity of the video if it has a lot of effects, clip and transition changes, multiple narration and music clips, etc. (3) try dividing the video into a Part 1 and Part 2 if this is viable (4) remove some clips to make the video shorter (5) check to see if you need to get more RAM (I'm using 2 GIGs of RAM to do these videos and a core2duo processor).

First publish your video on your computer and then upload it to youtube.

How to Publish Your Movie on Your Computer:

1- Click the "Publish Movie" button below the menu 2- Choose to publish on "This Computer" and click "Next" 3- Enter a file name for the movie, save it under "Desktop" and click "Next" 4- Click "Publish" and watch the progress with the green indicator 5- Click "Finish" when it's done publishing and the movie will automatically play on your media viewer.

Troubleshooting: If you have an error message when you try to publish the video on your computer that says there's not room and to check the source files try doing a defrag and the uploading it. This recently happened to me and after a defrag it was fine.

How to Upload Your Movie to Youtube:

To upload your video to youtube first you need to join youtube. 1- Click "Sign-Up" 2- choose a "Username and password" 3- enter your information 4- click the "Sign-Up" button.

To upload your movie to youtube 1- click the yellow "Upload" button in the upper right of every screen 2- browse to your "Desktop" and select your video 3- while its uploading fill out the Title, Description, Tags (searchwords) and Category on the screen that appears 4- choose Public viewing or Private

When it's done uploading click to watch it on youtube. You'll have your own channel now that you can customize.

The previous chapters covered 1- Import Media 2- Storyboard and Timeline 3- Text and Titles 4- Special Effects and Transitions 5- Adding and Importing Music. You can watch them at http://youtube.com/user/kristigott or at http://easytechonline.com.

  • You're welcome glad it helped. By the way, when you leave a comment my channel is set to send it to my email address for approval before it's published, and that's why it doesn't show up right after you type the comment. A lot of people leave the comment several times because they are puzzled why it doesn't show up on youtube right away. Thanks again for your comment and good luck!

  • Interesting problem. I haven't had trouble with keeping the colors from getting distorted before and I'm sorry I don't have a solution. You could do a google search for correcting color distortion in movie maker. Sorry I couldn't help and good luck.

  • First try deleting the uploaded, published movie and redo that part. So republish it on your computer and reupload it to youtube to see if that works. Something obviously went wrong the first time but sometimes it's because your computer was busy doing something else. Good luck.

  • Glad it helped. Best wishes.

  • publishing my movie on my computer isn't working, it keeps on getting stuck at 23%

  • @kashamaar If the movie is too long and complex, a big file, for your computer resources to handle and/or if you have a slow connection it might get stuck. If your movie is long with a lot of effects, transitions, audio etc you can try to divide it into 2 movies, or remove some of the things that make the file big, and try it again. Good luck

  • Thx soooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • I wanna know what's the problem with the colours of my pictures or the titles after I published them and the colours are kind of too moldy for me like the colours are not correct as in the Movie Maker project before it's published, please help to tell me how do you to keep the colours to be kept the same?

  • I would need help. After publishing my movie on my computer 20 seconds of it is earased (by that I mean that the screen goes black tough the music is still going on).My movie is only 28 MB and the end credits are still working so I don't think my movie is to big or anything like that (but I can be wrong). The clips I'm using are still saved on my computer like all the others. So yah, I'm pretty desperate by now and I hope you can help me.

If you can't well your video is still awesome :)

  • thx so much. great advice!

  • @KathleenMcKee9 You have to publish your movie first
