Wes Craven was already famous for movies like 'Last House on the Left' (1972) and 'The Hills Have Eyes' (1977), but it was this movie, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, that made him one of the best horror movie directors ever. the movie was made within 32 days and costet less than 2 miljion dollars. But the result was magnificent and wealthy (it brought up to 25 miljion dollars). The movie became so popular because it featured a new monster, Freddy Krueger (played by Robert Englund), whose hand with razor knifes can be seen in this scene. Freddy is one of the most popular horror monster ever because of his charme, sense of drama and sadistic humor.
In this famous scene, we can see the young Johnny Depp (this was the first movie he played in) being killed by Freddy.
The movie had 6 sequels (but I think personally the original ine is always the best).
