OPERATIONS TRIDENT AND PYTHON (1971 WAR) - INDIAN NAVY AT ITS BEST

Operation Trident and its follow up Operation Python were naval attacks launched on Pakistan's port city of Karachi by the Indian Navy during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Operation Trident was the first time ship launched missiles were used in the region, and saw the first sinking of naval vessels in the region since independence for the two nations. As a result of this operation India celebrates Navy Day on December 4.

Karachi did not see sunrise for almost 7 days after this devastation done by Indian Navy.This was the biggest and most successful attack launched on an enemy by any Navy in the world after WW 2.

This massive attack by Indian Navy paralyzed its Pakistani counterpart by reducing it to hardly half of its previous strength and crippled the Pakistani economy by setting all fuel tanks at Karachi port ablaze
