In this guitar lesson, I explain how you can use dominant 7th and diminished chords to add tension and interest to your progressions. The journey starts with the V chord turnaround moment in the blues progression, and leads into using the tritone substitution in its place. From there I talk about 3 more dominant 7th chords that form a sort of family of dom7ths that you can use in imaginative ways. This family is closely related to, or shadowed by, a parallel group of diminished chords. In my opinion, this is one of those little known by "must know" secrets for blues players who want to break out of the rigid I-IV-V box.
