what this song is about is - an old town ( boystown ) where trouble childs were sent when they were bad. it was a whole town run by boys and one child came up carrying his brother, and someone asked " isnt he heavy ? and he replied " he aint heavy , hes my brother

I appreciate that, Mystk...The reason I wanted that clarified is because Bob Russell has become one of my all-time favorite song writers. He wrote such a variety (as you could see from my original note) - such as this one, older standards, and even rock and roll (The Girl Can't Help It - one of my favorite Little Richard records)... Recovering16-I was doing some investigating myself and found that there were 2 conflicting articles but bob russell is the correct one who died in 1970 of cancer. In one articles it lists Bobby Russell & Bobby Scott the other one list Bob Russell & Bobby Scott. But you are correct...

Bob Russell was the lyricist, not Bobby Russell. (Bobby Russell was white, probably born around 1950 or so and was married to Vicki Lawrence; Bob Russell was black, was born around 1920 and collaborated with Duke Ellington and many others. Same name, different song writer... (both very talented)
