The part that focuses on "under God" ...silly, at least in terms of it's association with the pledge. The "under God" phrase was added releatively recently, 1954. It was not originally a part of the pledge. Somehow the author found it possible to assert a love of and devotion to country without a reference to a mythological deitiy.
@odephraimchai People usually want that as part of the constitution since they wouldn´t be very happy if a majority discriminate themselves in a matter where they happen to be in a minority group.
@odephraimchai Citizens don´t have rights in democracies? Weird.
Why are you speaking to me about your faith when you know I don´t share it and that your religious believes are irrelevant for politics unless you want a theocracy? Majority rules does not make it normal in a modern democracy to discriminate minorities. That is usually part of the constitution and should serve to stop people from discriminating minorities whenever a majority feel like it.
@katnils If you understand law than you can understand a Citizen is a legal ficition which has no rights its a personna in law. The kingdom of heaven which is Israel not the jews is just that a kingdom with laws and those laws appear not to support gentiles laws! Roman law however supports gentiles laws and Rome did allow gay rights! Let the same UCC Roman Law has been used to disallow gay rights. Go figure majority rules!
@odephraimchai Individuals sure are controlled by religion but that is another issue than to accept religious political control. Theists should motivate their political opinions logically like the rest of us are expected to do and to never get away with claiming to speak for any god. An omnipotent god is fully capable of speaking for itself and fully capable of telling everyone about its will itself. Why an omnipotent god would need any humans to speak for it is very unclear.
@odephraimchai There are ways to limit the political control religions have on citizens. People´s choices about their own lives are obviously not a matter for the state to decide about if it the issue doesn´t concern and affect others. Gay marriages is a good example of that. If other people have a right to marry it is just absurd to deny gays the same rights.
I can´t come to think of in what way my country is controlled by religion. About 85 % are atheists here.
@katnils So what happen to one nation under God1 By the way i do not disagree with you. I only stating that religions control all countries which god will you service!
@d3st88 actually I was referring to the GOD that keeps your heart beating in your chest. We are not our own.

@odephraimchai If majority rules in all issues there was nothing wrong with what happened in Nazi Germany. Hitler was democratically elected.
