Eli Yishai: There's a Jewish gene

Israeli Interior Minister Eli Yishai claims that there is a 'Jewish gene' and that is passed down from mother to child (and not from father to child). Both of these claims have absolutely no scientific factual basis whatsoever. However, he publicly proclaims them as such, because if they were in fact true, they would lend credence to his racist, Jewish supremacist ideology. Disgusting. [NOTE: The Biblical passage mentioned in the video is actually in Chapter 7 of Deuteronomy, not in Chapter 4]

Mitochondrial DNA is passed only from mother to daughter. If I remember correctly it can be measured as well to tell exactly how far down the hereditary line said female is. Unless I am mistaken this is the DNA in question.

There is no "Jewish" gene, but genetic markers exist that are shared by distant Jewish population groups that are not found commonly among geographically closer non-Jewish population groups, indicating common ancestral Jewish origins. Most of these markers were found on the Y chromosome (the male side), but Yishai, being an ignoramus, says they don't pass from a Jewish father if the mother isn't Jewish.
