  • Davie, great day Sir! I have been watching this video for several weeks know and I can not figure out how to spread the wings (from 2:56 to 3:05) when you make the figure 8 the angle of the camera does not let me see which direction you are wrapping the thread to separate the wings.

Yes, I am a ROOKIE fly tier, please do not rip me apart guys, just trying to learn from one of the best.

    Good day

    Abel.

  • Hi Abel (elotemarten),

There's no problem with your question, what I will do the next chance I get is to tye a pattern which shows this technique much better...

    All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail

    Hi Davie,

Did you tye a pattern which shows how to spread the wings?

    Ref: Catskill 2:56 to 3:05

    Thank you

    Luc

  • Hi Luc(Phryganea),

I don't think I have a video showing a clearer shot of making the wing but next time I'll see what I can do..

    ATB Davie

  • hi davie mention summer duck as the wing.? is that teal? i`ve just never come across summer duck. thanks

  • Hi troutpoo,

No, Teal is a different species but you could use it as it does make a great wing. If you type in Summer or Wood Duck on the web you will see this species, it's a beautiful bird...

    All the best Davie

  • All of the videos I had watched about making that wing style had a much harder approach to it. Thank you for making that easier.

  • @norfolkozark , Sorry, we yanks are too busy catching fish to fuss around with which duck is which.

  • Great hackle color Davie, nice score

    cheers
