Thank You for sharing this, its glad to see someone interested in Louisiana's Creole culture like I am. I'm from Sunset, LA and I grew up listening to my grandparents and a bunch of older people speak the language. I love both Cajun and Creole cultures, but people gotta understand that even though they share somethings, they are totally different cultures.

You got it wrong, Boudreaux. Louisiana is FAR from the poorest state in the U.S. Try this one time: Cut off the power in the whole U.S. for a month, man, a whole month. Then, try to find me a place where people are more interested in takin' care of their neighbors than themselves. Find me a place where people are more well fed and more well loved. You a young man, so I reckon I'll have to forgive you for having such a poor understand of the difference between "rich" and "poor."

@RagtimeDorianHenry I am learning, but yes Louisiana was a French territory and today there remains more than 150,000 fluent speakers most in Southern Louisiana, not including New Orleans.

@Baybeeka16 Not necessarily...you are correct that Creole was spoken before Haitians arrived, but depending on where in Louisiana determined your language preferance. My family's heritage parish WAS a Creole dominant area among white, blacks, etc. However, many Creoles in other places spoke French especially if they were off money, so skin color doesn't have a say so, because whites from my family's parish also spoke Créole la Lwizyan. I think that u should focus on learning the louisiana creole instead of french, because it was the language spoken by the black people living in louisiana even before the haitians came down there....

@manovrsb Great Question! It is all historical, and today about 50% of Louisiana residents or more ARE NOT Creole. The term was used to describe the European descedants in the Americas and the blend of other races. So, when the USA bought Louisiana, there was a HUGE CULTURAL split between the two. So, the term "Creole" was used to describe those already there from the Anglo-Americans, and continues to be used as such today.

im haitian-jamaican, and i wonder whats so special about lousian that make em say that theyre creole? i mean yes they have somewhat euro-african blood but i dont get the fact that some dont just call themselves louisian and just wont leave creole as a language(as it is in the caribbean) .eg jamaicans speak jamaican "CREOLE" but we never say were creole do we! as so for haitians who speak haitian"CREOLE" but never say theyre creole people. so y louisiana calling themselves "creole?"not lwizyan
