By the end of that year, the importation of whale oil, which was then used in transmission fluid, was banned in the US. Within a few years, there was an epidemic of simultaneous cooling-system/transmission failures in (particularly GM)cars with the new fluid in their automatic transmissions. So if you had a GM car both overheat and fall our of gear in the mid '70s, at least you can say it happened for a good cause.

Shirley Jones, Total cast of this show. song was / is beautiful they dont sing about things like that nomore, just about making money.If anyone seen the episode, the entire contribution went to SAVE THE WHALES FOUNDATION. AND NOW WE HAVE THAT SPILL IN THE GULF. ITS SAD,SAD,SAD. WE WILL NEVER LEARN

I'm a male and I'll admit this song can bring a tear to your eyes!It's not so much the lyrics to me as it is the melancholic musical arrangement!This is one of my "emotional release"songs!I'm sure Shirley Jones can still belt this out just as beautifully 40 years later!
