That Boru used viking mercenaries in his battle with Dublin Vikings and the Leinstermen should not distract you from the basic premise that this was indeed viewed as an Irish victory by posterity. Boru by his very claim to be High King would have unified the provinces and country by his very refusal to brook no argument from the likes of Mael Morda mac Murchada of Leinster. Yes Dublin was an important port in western Europe. Vikings were never native to Ireland even after 2 centuries in Dublin.

@mikser Technically that wasnt an Irish victory since there wasnt an invading army to fight, Boru attacked Dublin with an army of mostly paid vikings to take control of the ports since they were some of the busiest and most valuable in Europe at the time. The people in Dublin at the time were either Irish or settled vikings.

there is a longer version any body know???

@westwood187 Brian Boru of course. You know he defeated the Danes of Dublin which also cost him his life on the day of the greatest Irish victory.
-

Bang on with the situation at this point in time. I hear the English want to bail the economy out...sure don't they owe us 800 years worth of rent.
