How I Gave Up Religion

@malikidmc - In a way, yes. Because once he knows I'm not bossed around by a man in the sky, he can be confident that I won't hold up funding for research or try to promote teaching mythology in biology class. I also won't prevent contraceptives being introduced to stop AIDs in Africa and I won't pray for someone instead of giving them medicine. He can also be relieved that I won't try to ban stem cell research or deny global warming.
So yes, a scientist would give a damn.

If you really truly follow your religion, it allows you to not worry about what comes after, and to say the Bible isn't how to live, well, it specifically says in the Bible that it was how to live, but i respect your video and the time you took to make this!

Comparing Santa-Clause to God isn't much of a comparison. The best comparison would be; God and Matter Creating itself.

Awesome!!!

I didn't quite get the reason you didn't consider Islam, it has nothing of the contrasts that you mentioned except for the concept of hell, apart from the pictures you included, it's somewhat similar to Islam.

The way I made sure my child understood that god wasn't real was to link it to the whole Santa Clause thing. When he was ten, I accidentally let it slip that the tooth fairy wasn't real just a few months after he had discovered the Easter Bunny wasn't real. He angrily demanded, "What's next? Santa?" I sighed and said, "Yes, son. And right after that is god." He started laughing. He couldn't help it. He said, "Actually, Mom, I already knew."

@Aramink - I really want to do a video sparking discussion on this. Should we be doing the whole Santa thing? Easter Bunny? Tooth Fairy? I feel sorta guilty when I talk about them sometimes to kids, but on other occasions, I get nostalgic because I grew up with these characters and I turned out just fine.
Can it be a tool to help kids use their minds to figure out magic and fantastic claims on their own?
I'm not sure. Love to hear what others think about it.
