The Spanish luthier Felix Manzanero is widely considered among the finest flamenco guitar makers in Spain. His guitars have won such prestigious prizes like 1st place en el Concurso Internacional de Maestros Guitarreros in Tarbes, France in 1989 (click on the picture below). Felix possesses an extraordinary large stock of woods having aged over 30 years.
Felix Manzanero was born in Madrid in 1937. Being a friend of the Ramirez family, at the age of 14, Felix began his apprenticeship under José Ramirez II (1885-1957) in the Ramirez workshop. After 12 years there, working alongside with Alfonso Benito and Jose Ramirez III, Felix started his own workshop at the Santa Ana street in Madrid where many famous concert players from all over the world have visited him to admire his guitars. Felix has dedicated a great part of life to the study of guitar building and its sounds. Among others, he has made a guitar without fan braces and with a seventh interior string. Driven by his enthusiasm of getting a better sound, he has also made an elliptical guitar. Together with a group of engineers, he has been experimenting intensively with the development of an elaborate technical system to find the ideal measurement of the harmonic table before it is mounted in the instrument. Felix Manzanero is a leading member of the Artesanos de la Guitarra at the Escuela of Madrid. As a master craftsmen he has inherited a centuries-old tradition, not only of superb craftsmanship but also of continuous innovation and improvement of the guitar as a musical instrument.
The 32 year old German spruce top of this Manzanero is outstanding, and the cypress is superb. This blanca is a real concert instrument having a noble rich, balanced tone, profound basses and incisive trebles. This blanca really shows that Felix his reputation is clearly justified.
