This is a Green Escalator at ICN, Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea. These escalators are in sleep mode until someone approaches it. This saves electricity and maintenance costs due to less wear and tear. Why don't we see these in America where the green movement is in full swing?

  • I agree, but when you are dragging bags behind you, escalators and elevators are necessary. Airports and train stations are places where escalators are absolutely necessary! Why the US doesn't have more 'green' escalators is beyond me.

  • I have seen green escalators in almost every country I have traveled to except the US. I wish we would get on the bandwagon! Does anyone know whatever hapened to the escalator the NYC subway system retrofitted? It it working well and are there plans to install more?

  • I would generally agree with you, but escalators are absolutetly neccessary at an airport. I think they should be in all train stations as well, but they can just as well be served by elevators.

  • You killed a polar bear wasting the energy to make this video

  • The reason for few Green escalators in the US is simple, a massive installed base of 3 phase escalators.

3 phase motors are synced to the power line so they have 2 modes, running, or not.

The effort to start and stop one would be greater than leaving them running, for now.

As motor controllers become more efficient and cheaper this will change.

  • And Im asking myself.... What a fuck Im doing here??? O..o

  • @XwARnINgXxXERRoRrX agree on your point for climbing...but to go down, sliding down just makes it more fun

  • @jainish007 Fight against obesity!

  • @XwARnINgXxXERRoRrX well there's a whole difference there...slide down won't take any effort while stairs or ladder you would have to climb'em!!!

  • @jainish007 why don't we start making ladders in place for stairs!!!

  • why don't we start making slides in place for elevators!!!
