A Serious Passion for Cameras

A love of photography is not enough to describe one Indian man's passion for the art. Let's take a look at one massive camera collection that has more than a thousand cameras from around the world.

STORY:
Indian camera collector Kaliperumal has amassed about 1300 varieties of cameras over the last 37 years. The 45-year-old from southern India certainly has a deep passion for cameras.

[Kaliperumal, Camera Collector]:
"Yes, I have in my collection cameras from all over the worldCanada, London, Japan and the US which indeed happens to be my life's mission. I had a flair for cameras. I also had a habit of collecting old cameras. I have almost all kinds of cameras in my collection, be it the world's first camera or lensesI even have a good collection of projectors and map readers."

Kaliperumal's collection has all the popular brands... cameras from Leica, Contaflex, Rolleiflex, Bronica, ACIF form just a fraction of his treasure. He has also collected many varieties of lenses. He even has cameras that are used to make the maps of different countries.

[Kaliperumal, Camera Collector]:
"Right from pinhole cameras of yore to the modern gadgets, I have collected varieties of cameras. Presently I have over 1,500 in my collection and many college students have been visiting my place to learn about the history of photography and to see my vast collectionthat I have personally cultivated from my childhood. Of course, I wish that all my efforts culminate in the form a museum to depict the history of cameras."

Kaliperumal says his desire of collecting cameras will never die down. He plans to spend more of his hard earned money to fulfill his passion collecting more cameras for many years to come.
