Do you know why elephants have such big ears? And how about the ugly
and massive red swellings on baboons buttocks? Animal Bites will tell you
all those facts and curiosities of the animal kingdom you might have
wondered about but never got an answer for.
Synopsis
Animal Bites is a short, presenter led wildlife documentary aimed at young audiences
between 8 and 25 years old, which falls into the factual genre. A combination of fast
moving images, split screens, fast pace soundtrack, graphics and the enthusiastic
personality of the wildlife presenter create a sweeping leitmotif, which aims to keep the
young audiences interested and entertained. By rising questions such as why elephants
have such big ears and why baboons have big, swollen backsides, the presenter will add
another level of weight to the production by providing viewers with an insight into a
broad variety of curiosities about the animal kingdom. Each of the two animal bites,
Included in a single programme, will concentrate on a particular question, allowing the
viewer to isolate episodes of interest. The commentary includes scientific facts on animal
physiology, ecology and behaviour and by rising specific questions it is able to explain
difficult concepts in an uncomplicated way with the final aim of educating and
entertaining a younger audience.
The UK based Tangaroa Production is the driving force behind this 5m 19s short movie.
Animal Bites has been finalised as a result of collaboration with the Wildlife Film Academy
of Cape Town (South Africa). Filming has taken place at the Kruger National Park of South
Africa during a week in June 2008 and the film was made ready for screening by 15 July,
2008. Although, Animal Bites is a stand-alone project, which aspires to enter various
short movie festivals and competitions, it is also a concept for a programme series for TV
and Internet audiences.
This production currently seeks funding and partnerships, which would provide exciting
opportunities to invest in a high quality series suitable for television, festivals, education
and the internet providing a perfect length-to-content ratio that is highly regarded
amongst iTV audiences. While the television platform may provide the initial audience
interest, the Internet medium would make the project stand out by offering viewers short
isolated episodes of interest. The educational content, downloading opportunities and
interactive capabilities are ideal for young primary and secondary school students,
teachers or general audiences around the world. The expected demographic is cross
cultural, male and female, age between 8 and 25 in economic group (LSM) 7 to 10. It also
has worldwide appeal to audiences outside the demographic group that are interested in
wildlife, the environment, ecology, conservation and travel. Language is 100% English.
