Colombian rebels deny medical assistance for an ill hostage

A French medical team went to Colombia to offer medical assistance to FARC hostage Ingrid Betancourt. who is believed to be seriously ill. Here's an update on the situation.

Bad news for French-Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt, who is thought to be seriously ill.
After sitting on the apron at Bogota for a week, a French medical team finally heard from her captors, in the negative. Refused permission to treat the hostage, the mission has been abandoned.

Betancourt, seen here in the most recent proof-of-life video last October, is one of Colombian rebel group FARC's high-profile hostages. She's been held captive since 2002, but her husband is still leading the
campaign for her freedom.

[Juan Carlos Lecompte, Ingrid Betancourt's Husband]:
"Since there are so many rumors in this area that they have seen her, I want to go to various areas to talk with the people to look for information and check, to verify the information."

FARC rebels are holding 40 captives, including politicians and policemen, who they want to exchange for their own jailed fighters. But talks with the government are deadlocked.
