The Better Beer Authority has come a long way since its infamous review of Arrogant Bastard. In this review they go back to the Stone Brewery for another one of their famous beers. Stone IPA weighs in at 70 IBUs and the boys attack it with all their tastebuds. Will they enjoy this hoppy offering?
Partial Transcript: "On Tap -- Stone IPA
Hi. I'm James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority. Today we are visiting another beer from the Stone Brewing Company in Escondido, California -- Stone IPA, which has been around since 1997.
An IPA, or India Pale Ale, is an English style of beer that was brewed to withstand long voyages across the sea to India. Two characteristics of this style helped preserve it on the journey -- the high alcohol content and lots of hops, which act a preservative in beer. Stone pays reverence to the original recipes with a beer that comes in at 6.9% ABV and 77 IBUs.
They only use barley, hops, water & yeast and are proud of the fact that this beer contains no chemical preservatives, pasteurization or adjuncts like corn or rice.
Hops are front-and-center in this beer -- in the taste and the aroma. They use Columbus, Chinook and Centennial hops. The brewery also dry-hops it for two weeks to give it an abundant hop aroma.
Q&A Aroma? Are you scared of all the hops? Is it as hoppy as you imagined? Piney, citrusy?
Stone IPA scores (???) on the BBA Scale. Are you a hophead? What's your favorite IPA? Have you found a beer that's too hoppy for you? Let us know in the comment section. Thanks for watching. I'm James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority."

it seems like scott is the only person in the show who understands good beer... everyone else analyzes their beer by their own taste buds rather then breaking down the beer and really focuses on key elements on where you can score a beer properly.

We are not style judges. The panelists have been instructed to rate the beer according to their tastes. Then, if you watch the show often you can figure out which judge you agree with the most and give more weight to their rating. Also, if they are giving a beer a low rating, then I tell them to be up front about whether it's just a style that they don't go for.

@AgileHProductions very true. I hated IPAs and pale ales at first having like most people started with lagers. Now I can't stomach lagers.

In all honesty, Greg's beer review is way better and much spot on. I usually watch your channel for the informative beer intro to know more about the beers I'm drinking.

I appreciate you tuning in. Greg does a solid job. In all honesty, this was not one of my favorite BBA reviews. Not sure they nailed it. I think they have grown as beer drinkers and I hope you will check out some of our newer episodes like Heady Topper (coming this week). Plead the 5th was a good episode too.

Most people don't like IPAs at first, but if you start drinking them a lot, then you will develop a taste for the hoppy bitterness pretty quickly.
