@TheWhitehall Distract? Parker was one 'special' man. I would say Bill added something more to the combo by his enthusiasm. Sad he passed away so early.

@gangerollo Bill Black was not only a fine bass player he was, as you say a "Fun Guy". Have read that there was a bit of friction between Bill,Elvis and the Colonel. Over money! Also read somewhere, that Parker was of the opinion that Bill`s enthusiasm detracted people from Elvis` performance. Find that hard to believe, only Scotty and DJ know the answer.

@TheWhitehall But it give you a glimpse how good he could be, the 1960 Hawaii concert. And he was still fresh and had all the great songs/rockn'roll in his blood and all the hits already done and 'under his belt'. The ones that really counts IMHO. Sure, the band must be one of his best ever. I mean both the late great Hank Garland and Scotty. Only miss Bill Black. On those vids from '56 one can see that Bill was a real fun, gone getter guy.

@gangerollo It is a great shame that the quality of the recording of Elvis` 1960 Hawaii Concert is so poor. Elvis` voice is at its best and the backing band which included Hank Garland,Floyd Cramer, Scotty Moore,D J Fontana and Boots Randolph was second to none. The tragedy of Elvis` career is that he was "off" stage for almost nine years, when vocally Elvis was at his peak.

@TheWhitehall Well, it's not all about that. What I mean is that ALL live versions I have heard of, for example take this, "A Big Hunk o' Love" made after the '50s, more exactly after the Havaii concert 1960 or so, here from the '70s, are speeded up. I just hate what they are doing here with this great rocker. Like he and the band is in a hurry just to finish it. No real feeling in it. It goes astray. I would have loved hear El doing , "A Big Hunk o Love" live in the '50s

@gangerollo Me too. I don`t think Elvis really topped any of his "original" recordings in live performance. [Because, they [originals] were perfection]

Thanks, Adam. I'd never heard this stage version of the 1958 tune recorded June while E was on leave from the Army. Original tune is on the album 50,000 fans can't be wrong with the all-star band including Floyd Cramer and Hank Garland, and of course the fab Jordanaires. Captures his raw energy, I think.
This is awesome. I love the pictures. Elvis was and is the best. I miss him. I always wonder what he would look like today. I know he would still have that sexy smile and great voice.
