WADOMA performs a piece entitled "Battle of the Elements" at the High Noon Saloon in Madison, WI. Battle of the Elements is based on a Nigerian folktale about Wind, Fire and Rain, and a dispute over whom is the greatest.

It opens with a village scene featuring a song and the ever-popular rhythm Kuku. The gathering is interupted when Wind comes to show her destructive power. Wind's dance is Tiriba, a rhythm from Boké, Guinea.

Amid the ruin of the powerful windstorm, Fire begins to make his entrance. Fire dances to the Baga rhythm Sorsonet, accompanied by his dancing nymphs. His force is even greater than that of Wind, destroying everything in his path.

Slowly and gently, rainclouds gather and Rain begins her entrance. She restores peace and tranquility to the land and the people. Rain is danced to Mané, a Susu rhythm. Rain is the gentlest, and the gentlest is the greatest.

  • Wadoma does it really very good !!

As a member of the world, i like to say that color never should matter!! Africans can also perfectly dance Classic Ballet and all dances belong to the world!! I have seen black people dancing not halve this good!! If everybody would have a little more respect for the imput of some enthousiastic people i think the world would look much better, !

  • to STILLSEXY007. you are an IDIOT in big bold letters. wadoma by far one of the best djembe groups i've seen coming out of north america. and by the sound of their djembes and the way the dance, i bet they have x10 more education than you.

  • @StillSexy007 - sorry that you feel that way.it mirrors the attitude that I've encountered from folks for years - I had no business as a Black man playing Classical European Music..that shuts people off from each other. How about we ALL respect/honor African Culture...I hope they are sure to credit / honor the African culture from which their performance comes and we all appreciate that they love it enough to share their enthusiasm and perhaps also bring Africans to perform with them, too.

  • Omg I watched this again to see if I could get a better feel for it........... NOPE

  • I really enjoyed the video! Thanks for posting. It reminded me of a play I say in Guinea.

  • Many good African dancers are light on there feet. African moves are grounded but to make them look good you need to have a strong core which encourages being lighter on your feet enabling you to jump higher.

It's really not about color but more of love and respect for something that is fun and beautiful.

  • I alwyas think its funny to read people who have problems with "white people" doing this stuff. There are folks all over the world playing and performing this music. This is one of the better drum and dance groups I've seen at this level and they definitely understand what they are doing and do it well. These are good dancers and drummers perfoming well within the context. If it looks "weird" to you then its really a personal issue you have.

  • The dance is ok. But it just looks kindve weird seeing white ppl doing an African dance. I know there are whites there, but traditionally the dances are from villages. I dont believe there were any white tribes in Africa.??!!! Correct me if I'm wrong. Cant imagine black ppl doing the Irish Line Dance. Besides, that white guy dancer is too light on his feet. Get real dude!

  • ahha, they are good though.
