  • Ha! His avoiding her kiss is totally Gunsmoke. This would've been a great, great series. Like the old west in the urban jungle.

  • I remember this when it first came out! It was fun then and even more so now! The Spirit is a square-jawed hero and Sam Jones nailed it perfectly! Plus Nana Visitor as Ellen Dolan made it a delight!

  • i watched the 2008 version of this movie last night and gagged... this is exactly what i was expecting. good detective work. silly. serious. dramatic. and true to what will eisner believed the spirit should be. it's a pity this movie wasn't bigger back in the day. could have left us with a timeless classic over a frank miller gore...

  • I always wanted this pilot to become a show. I'm sure most traditional Spirit fans would have hated it because of the whole "camp" approach, but it could have really worked. Thank you for posting it.

  • I liked this a whole bunch. I saw the new one and thought it was Fun and Silly and so is this but I like this version better. Sam Jones looks like and acts like The Spirit Should.

  • As low budget and cliche as it was, this movie was pretty damn cool. I skipped the slow parts , but it still had this humble charm that's rare to find in today's movies. The theme makes this movie though, classic 80s superhero rock, loved it. I have yet to see the miller movie but plan to see it soon, at least i have this as a reference now.

PS: LOL at the announcer guy at the end, so many old school shows it's awesome. Thanks for posting!!!

  • I missed this when it was broadcast 20 years ago... and, laughably bad as some of it is, it's still better and closer-to-Eisner than Frank Miller's new version. (Neat to have a peak at Nana Visitor's career between "42nd St" and "Star Trek: DS9," too.) Enjoyable.

  • Thank you for posting this movie!

    Very entertaining!
