Model Rocket Disaster (with on-board video)

Our classic Estes "Phoenix" model rocket meets a sod field at high speed. The crash happened because we used too steep an angle for the launch rod (we were trying to compensate for a very high cross-wind). The rocket's recovery system (parachute) did not have time to deploy before impact.

@donperry1 This model has a tendency to turn into the wind, presumably because of the large fin area.

Nice build. Always liked the Phoenix. Ive done the same thing , aim into the wind and the rocket always noses over and runs parallel to the ground , then the chute comes out about 5 ft off the ground but its too late.

very nice launch. too bad you laucnhed it at an angle. was kinda funny tho. :D ya the biggest rocket i have takes "C" so... still fun to fly tho. and by the looks of the picture at the end most of the damage is cosmetic. that's from looking at the picture tho.
