Hurricane Irene - poor photos & video -- shot at 730 pm EST. To put in perspective of where Hurricane Irene lies in relation to Washington D.C.

Right now it lies extremely southeast, I'd say a good 300 miles away from DC, and it hasn't passed yet. I've included two photos, one original and one enhanced version. The view is looking towards the southeastern horizon, and you can see the darker clouds way out past the treetops --most likely that's out in Norfolk. When it comes north up the coast (when those dark clouds move away from the white buildings on the right), I think it'll still be some distance from Washington DC.
