In 2007 at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, history was made when, for the first time in 47 years, no Russian skater medalled. I hope to inspire Russia's new generation to uphold the legacy forged before them by greats like Gordeeva & Grinkov, Kazakova & Dmitriev, Mishkatanuk & Dmitriev, Navka & Kostomarov, Bestimianova & Bukin, Klimova & Ponamerenko, Grishuk & Plkatov, Plushenko, Yagudin, Kulik, Urmanov, Abt, Slutskaya, Butyrskaya, and Sokolova, among many, many others I did not include in this video for time constraints. This montage is a little "pep talk" by the great Russian figure skaters of the past.

I use "Arise, People of Russia!" from Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky.

    From Russia with LOVE!!!))))

  • My pleasure, zzhenechka! I am happy you enjoyed it. Russian skaters are the reason I love the sport in the first place! I used 45 videos to make this tribute, my most ambitious project.

  • This is so great! I miss them...

    But I don't think I've seen Tanya&Max...

  • I don't think I put them in, at the time I didn't have any files of them.

  • Длинная жизнь в большую мать Россия !!!

Long life to the great mother Russia !!

  • The music from Prokoviev and the excellence of the Russian skaters points to the amazing and tragic distance between what is good and bad in Russian culture. The best really is the best and the worst is hard to fathom. Prokoviev had a difficult relationship with his censors. His is really a historical commentary on how to reconcile the best and worst in Russia.

  • A very underrated piece of music. Even now, years after first hearing it, the main theme gets stuck in my head quite often.

  • Super prokofiev is my best compositor
