How Much Should You Feed Your Cat?

Cat owners have often asked how much food should they feed their cat. Pet-Care Advisor, Valerie discusses how this is not a question that has one simple answer for every cat or every food. Hi im getting a kitten and it will probly be around 8 weeks old. Im not really sure how often to feed the kitten and I read on some websites to feed it a small amount of canned food at around 3-4 times a day. But on some other websites they said to feed it a small amount 3-4 times canned food a day and then to leave it dry food to munch on and water. Would that be right?

@XxTasha7263 Kittens are often busy playing and too easily distracted to eat much food at one sitting. I'm with those that feel you should leave dry kitten food and water available all the time, and supplement with 2-3 meals of canned food daily. Feed only about 1 - 1 1/2 ounces of canned food at a time. Good luck with your new kitten.

ok i had a mother cat come to my mom apt and i think had her kittens now,so the kittens are 3 days old theirs 3 left watch should i do about the kittens?should i let the stray mother cat feed them while i supply the mother with cat food,

My 8 month old siamese kitty is in good shape , i feed him twice a day of cat food in the morning i give him dry food and when i eat breakfast i give him a little from my food and at 5 or 6 pm i feed him 1 can food the one on the left side ! And its not only at breakfasts that i feed him lol somtimes when i eat dinner or lunch ! He loves vegies , cooked carriots , tomatos with eggs he eats almost everything

I Feed my Birman weruva tiki cat and blue dry food 1can 5 oz chicken and duck 1can 2.5 oz tiki cat wild salmon and chicken and1/4 cup of blue in between I feed him 4 small meals throughout the day allowing him Time to digest and fast he looks and feels great!

@LivMagic101 You have to make sure the milk is meant for cats. Too much normal milk will make the cat sick. My kitten had diarrhoea on my brother's shirt when she drank milk.

this is really helpfull, because my cat geogie is a big cat, i think he's about a 10-12lb (if not bigger cat) even before i had him, so it's not like he's fat, and he has two small bowls of dry food with vitamin paste and a packet of wet food everyday, because i never had a cat before, i was worride i was feeding him too much... going to check the calories !!!!

@PetFoodDirect Hi - Im getting a kitten in 10 days and I already have two older cats. My mum has said that we will have to watch the kitten eat in case one of the older cats steals its food - how will i know when the kitten is hungry so i can feed it?
