This video gives an overview of the TRECVID BBC Rushes Summarization task, co-ordinated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and K-Space in 2008. The activity evaluated approaches to automatically summarizing rushes content using an archive of 100 hours of material provided by the BBC.
Participating research groups were given a number of rushes videos and asked to automatically create a summary clip which was less than or equal to 2% of the duration of the original rushes video.
In 2008, over 30 groups from across the world participated in this activity.
To evaluate the submissions from each group, a ground truth summary for all videos was created at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
