Samson François (1924 - 1970)

Twelve Variations in C major on "Ah vous dirai-je, Maman" K. 265/300e, was thought to be composed in 1778, while Mozart stayed in Paris from April to September in that year, the assumption being that the melody of a French song could only have been picked up by Mozart while residing in France.

Later analysis of Mozart's manuscript suggested 1781-1782 as the probable composition date. The variations were renumbered from K. 265 to K. 300e in the chronological catalogue of Mozart's compositions and were first published in Vienna in 1785.

  • I like this. He respects the character of this piece, - a simple childrens song with variations, - no bravoura, no trying to break the speed-record for the sake of speed. Just a clean, loving, perfect rendition. Beautiful all the way. My deepest respect.

  • ...Interprété, sans doute, comme Mozart a pu désirer le faire, cette oeuvre adorable!... MERCI, xper2xper, pour tant de trésors réunis sur ton site, pour notre plus grand bonheur... Merci aussi pour ton message.
