The following public service announcement was aired during a Giants home stand that coincided with Hepatitis B Awareness Week in San Francisco. Assemblywoman Ma has been a leading advocate to bring awareness to this preventable disease that is often referred to as a "silent killer." Chronic Hepatitis B is a liver disease that can cause liver cancer, cirrhosis or liver failure -- without producing noticeable symptoms beforehand. As many as 1 in 10 Asian/Pacific Islanders in America and the prevalence of the disease in the Bay Area may be one of the reasons why the region has the highest rate of liver cancer in the country.
