Sure, you can master a style, or a technique.. or you could be Phil and do them all.

I was once enthralled by the cd cover of premium jams. After taking the 2disc set home and listening to it from beginning to end, my life was never the same.

His music is an outward expression of his inward joy and love for Christ and a reflection of the beauty and creativity of the Master Musician, God.

@bobquinlan Perhaps if you had been a fan of Phil for over 30 years, like myself, and listened to the lyrics to all the songs he has written, and seen how he has been a humble servant of Christ for all those years, you would realize how ridiculous your statements are. Phil's mastery of the guitar is simply astounding and covers many genres, from classical and flamenco to rock and roll and everything in between.

he has been called the best guitarist you never heard of
Maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't seem to me you have heard much of Phil's music or seen him in concert. I would highly suggest seeing him in concert and listening to some of his vocal albums. Then I think you would know what, or should I say whom he serves. He doesn't serve music. He serves God through his music. Of course, I don't mean to speak for Phil. It's just my observation. Have you seen the video "Maker of the Universe"? The lyrics are incredible!

Is that just a strip of plastic he puts in his strings at 5:15? What is it?

Yeah, that's all it is.

Can someone please tell me why this man is not unanimously considered as the finest all-around guitarist the world has ever heard?

I, and many others do consider him as such. I've seen him live about 10 times. Has to be seen live to really appreciate him. Awesome!
