i struggle with reentry of the atmosphere i can do takeoff, get into stable alt, dock, undock ,and de orbit burn but when i get to 80km for re entry and go to 40* it doesnt stay at 40* it then doesnt hold :( any tips ??

It's been a while since I have used Orbiter but when I filmed this reentry I used an addon that helps control the deorbit.

Before that addon was available there were different addons that assisted with maintaining the 40 degree angle of attack but we used to have to do the rest manually. I remember having to try and do the lot manually at one time but it was next to impossible.

I'm sure if you check out the orbiter forums there are addons that will help you achieve a stable and safe deorbit

is the Rendezvous Pitch Maneuver really necessary to deorbit

rendevous pitch maneuver is used when on approach for docking at the space station not as a deorbit prep. They take lots of photographs of the heatshield to make sure it is intact and undamaged.

So for flight safety rules it is now used to ensure the shuttle is safe to return. They do other scans prior to deorbit anyway.
