3 of the 6 west escalators of the Crossroads Plaza mall in Salt Lake
City get taken out by the sky light, as part of the mall's demolition
(along with ZCMI center later, next block) to make room for the City
Creek Center.

  • This mall was the tackiest mall even when opened, such a bad design. Good riddance Crossroads. Thanks for posting.

You're welcome for my having posted this. So tell me: What was it that you thought was tacky about that mall?

  • oh ok. thank you!

  • You're welcome.

  • Truly an awesome video, thank you for posting it. I wanted to make it to Crossroads one last time before they tore it down but couldn't make it. The thing that gets me most is seeing those escalators torn down...that part of the mall was the most beautiful and well-kept, I remember throwing change from the top floor down into the fountain below. Anytime we were in SLC we made it to Crossroads, usually twice a month or so. Hard to see a place you grew up visiting being torn to the ground...

  • Yeah, I agree, even though at the same time I'm excited to see what the new center will be like. I'm sorry that you couldn't get back in to see the mall another time when you wanted to.

You're welcome for my having posted this.

  • Well, not just the escalators, as you should be able to see. It should be obvious that they're demolishing all (or most of--but in this case, indeed all of) the mall.

They were getting rid of this entire mall and most of the one on the block just east (ZCMI Center) to make room for a whole new shape of community center on the two blocks, with new and existing workspace, and new shopping, living, and green park space. It'll be a whole different "ballgame" from the "fortress" malls of before.

  • why were they demoing those escalators?

  • No, it is not. I am a know of few firefighters and paramedics who have been to a few demolition construction accidents where 4tons of material have fallen on worker(s) and people out on the street. ITS A DANGEROUS WORKPLACE.

  • Bye Bye Escalators! So you think it'd be fun to demolish a building? Your right, it would be!

    Great video! Thanks.
