WARNING: SCREEN BURN IN! Mario Party 8 can cause serious screen burn in with many TVs. ESPECIALLY PLASMA MONITORS! Every so often, about 30 minutes to an hour, pause the game and change the channel to display a picture that uses your full screen width. Leave the TV on that channel for about 15 to 30 seconds then change back and resume play. This procedure helps prevent screen burn in of two black bars that appear at the edges of the screen during game play.

See this link for more information on burn-in:

Very simple procedure to take Mario Party 8 for the Wii from its normal 4:3 standard size to a more appealing and useful 16:9 widescreen resolution.

This video will show you how to change your Wii settings so that you can "trick" the Wii into running Mario Party 8 in a widescreen format.

What actually happens is the Wii sends a standard 4:3 signal, then using the format or aspect ratio settings on your widescreen TV you can convert the signal to the widescreen 16:9 presentation.

First film to be edited with Final Cut Studio. I used Final Cut Pro 5 and Motion.

  • Hi.. i need help why are his sidebars (the ones in the video) blue and when i play mine on widescreen they will always be black and i dont know how to change them please reply i need to know about it, they disctract me 2 much! tnx

  • Your Wii might be set on 4:3 mode. The blue bars only appear when you have your Wii set to Widescreen. I also believe they updated the game to remove the bars but I'm not sure as I no longer own this game.

  • wut did you do at 2:01?

  • Changing the display aspect ratio on the TV.

  • So you've distorded the image to get rid of the side bars?

  • Yup :)

  • cnt wait for mario party 9

  • @olmnut That's nice.

  • @Wiintendoh i know, but the game actually says HUDSEN ON THE BOX!!

  • @olmnut Maybe because Nintendo made Mario and stuff.

  • @Wiintendoh ...hudson, not nintendo!!! why does everyone think nintendo made the game?

  • @SilverOmegaDotCom there is

  • I have a question about Normal 4:3 TVs. I have a big TOSHIBA TV. Is there any way I can change the TV setting to Widescreen 16:9 resolution? If so, reply back.

  • It's not online, It's not widescreen.

Why was Mario Party 8 such a fail?

  • Most modern LCD TVs should not have a problem with burn ins. The blue bars on each side are ugly though. I don't understand why Hudson didn't make it 16:9. Wario Land Shake it had the same problem.

  • I've had Mario Party 8 for a few months, and I've never seen those colorful bars at the side of the screen before. For me, they are always black.
