Please click more info just above that information, and then proceed to feel stupid.

The keyboard and bass lock in together and ride the scale until the whole thing becomes this MASSIVE UNSTOPPABLE TRAIN BARRELING DOWN THE TRACKS, BLOWING EVERYTHING OUT OF IT'S PATH. I'M UP ON A SADDLE RIDING THIS ROLLERCOASTER BASTARD UNTIL IT GRINDS TO A STUNNING HALT. and then i hear what sounds like cheering. and i realize..... this is live? this is live? THE BAND CONVULSES IN LOCKED RHYTHM AND FORCE, THE HORN PUNCHES YOU IN THE FACE, AND IT IS OVER... THE AUDIENCE EXPLODES

3:54. Jesus. Even hearing 5 seconds of that shit makes my right-hand tendons sore as a motherfucker.

This was when Jaco was at his peak, right around the time Bobby Thomas joined the band. Wolsey Hall new Haven Ct. was his first night.

@A2KID420 lol hell yes the audience claps

Weather Report was and always will be one of the greatest jazz/fusion bands in the history of music. And this will always be one of the greatest grooves, combined with one of the best bass solos, ever recorded.

Jaco is the best. Forever.
I love how I had NO idea it was live until about 5 minutes

If memory serves me correctly, I heard somewhere that it was indeed recorded in studio, but in front of a small audience. I mean you could argue that recording in studio is just as much "live" as anything else, you're still just doing it as you exist right? However, philosophy aside, I suppose it would blend the best of both the studio and live worlds. Cheers!

Well..... I arrived home thrilled, elated, and exasperated because i did not know who the band was. Six months later, in the course of buying all Weather Report albums based on the sheer genius of Black Market, I purchased the Night Passage LP. Around the three minute mark I realized what i was listening to, and wept with joy. This song moves me in profound ways.

A year later I sit here just as enthralled and amused by your story. Thank you :)
