This is a recording of me playing and improvising over the jazz ballad 'Theme For Ernie' composed by Fred Lacey, with a backing track. As it's a ballad I stay mainly within the changes, only stepping out occasionally and briefly to add some colour to the solo. Playing and improvising over a ballad, I let my heart do the playing. I try not to fixate on what I want to play or what might sound good, but rather focus on what IS coming out of the instrument in the moment and through that, emotion comes into the playing.
JS -- this was a very nice tune, excellent tone, with a good deal of emotion/soul in it - let's just say it was very easy on the ears :-). I also checked out your version of Equinox, one of my favorites by Coltrane (I have to record it sooner or later). I'm early on my journey but would like to hear any feedback you may have.
