Tidetech's new tidal model of the UK Dorset coastline reveals the mysteries of one of the most feared and respected headlands on the UK coast. Strong tidal streams of up to 6kts converge with strong South Westerly Gale force winds, resulting in a maelstrom of churning white water making the headland un-navigable for most vessels except in calm conditions.
Portland Bill is one of the many hazards that navigators on the legendary Fastnet Race have to negotiate.
