@JackBauer270 It was Mussina who made the implication that Mariano blew the series, but it was Torre who allowed that quote to be included in his memoir, which I always thought was a disgrace. There is no one more singularly responsible for Torre's eventual induction into Cooperstown than Mariano, and for him to permit that quote to be used in "The Yankee Years" is as thankless as it gets.

@RedSoxNation92 look at the yankees pitching staff that year.

why how can you blame cashman?

This loss DOES NOT eliminate all OF BOSTON'S MISTAKES! This loss is the first time the Red Sox finally beat the Yankees and had more heart than the Yankees, but it does not eliminate Bucky Dent nor Bill Buckner nor Aaron Boone. Those scars will always be there even with the 2004 and the 2007 ALCS.

torre and cashman should have been fired the next day!!

I don't remember Torre ever saying Rivera was to blame, and I doubt it was rubbing anything in his face. Torre made numerous mistakes managing this series, and he wouldn't intentionally embarrass the greatest closer in history.
-
how? Think about it: Rivera had a 1 run lead in game 4 in Boston and blew it, and he had a 2 run lead in game 5 and blew it. If he doesn't blow those two games the Yankees win the series. Not to mention, Joe Torre came out and said Rivera was to blame

You sir are a moron.
Tank looks extra heavy here.
These guys are the best...hopefully one day we see a reunion scenario.

@JackBauer270 In game Five, Flash Gordon gave up a home run to Ortiz, then left runners on the corners for Rivera, who gave up the game tying sac fly. Everybody was to blame for the Yankee Collapse
