EnviroMission Limited (www.enviromission.com.au) This is an older video (2000) but gives a decent understanding of the solar tower concept.

EnviroMission, Ltd. (US Market: EVOMY, Australian Exchange: EVM) is a renewable energy developer of sustainable "green" energy solutions for the energy market. EnviroMission aims to be one of Australia's leading producers of clean renewable energy. EnviroMission holds the proprietary rights to Solar Tower technology, a large-scale renewable energy technology based on simple fundamentals of physics -- hot air rises. Solar Tower technology has the potential to offer competitive renewable energy with equal reliability to fossil fuel generators.

A single 200MW Solar Tower power station will provide enough electricity to power around 400,000 households. The energy output will represent an annual saving of more than 1,960,000 tonnes of greenhouse CO2 gases from entering the environment when compared to brown coal emissions in Victoria. The greenhouse savings equate to the removal of approximately 500,000 cars from the road. The Australian Solar Tower project consists of six distinct phases, the first two of which (project optimization and pre-feasibility commercialization) have already been completed. The third phase (final feasibility), paving the way for the implementation of the next three phases (final design, construction, and commercial operation).

they should build these above all the big parking lots we have. tarmac -asphalt gets so hot. + all those hot cars. it would be very efficient.

Looks good, but why not throw a conventional wind turbine on the top of the tower for extra power? and while you're at that, why not mount some solar PV panels on the south-facing side of the tower? we need to seriously start looking at combining multiple renewables at the same site to maximize output and economic viability.

A new study in the peer-reviewed science journal "Remote Sensing" has found that United Nations computer models may be incorrect in overstating the amount of global warming that will occur in the future. James M. Taylor says it would be wise for the media, elected officials and climate scientists to recognize the “huge discrepancy” between global warming predictors and NASA’s satellite data.

Not saying this is a bad idea, its just we are just simply using the power from the sun in more and different ways, all we need to really do, is find the most effecient way of capturing the energy of the sun and then harvesting it.

1 /2 Obama stop offshore drilling until it was reinstated. This could cause a $5 a gallon increase, because we would grow dependent upon foreign nations we are not allies with in order to provide our oil. Cap and Trade (American Power Act) would increase gas prices increase by $2.58 a gallon according to George C. Marshall Institute& taxes on the average household up to $3200 according to the RNC Foreign countries price gouge w/ gas prices to $10/gal!.

not to mention the costs of periodically replacing the plastic, which is a petrol product. These guys were attempting to find money to build a kilometer high tower here in australia (as apparently it becomes cost effective at that scale), but then they had to back down when they found out that no one could build anything that tall.
