I think downloading is a good thing because:
1. It forces the artist to be good. If they suck, not many people are going to pay for their shit.
2. If they're awesome but not mainstream, their music can still be heard by everyone. Then people can make an informed decision on whether they want to support the artist by buying their music. Plus, a lot of music is still not available everywhere in the world even with iTunes and all.
