Consuming Kids throws desperately needed light on the practices of a relentless multi-billion dollar marketing machine that now sells kids and their parents everything from junk food and violent video games to bogus educational products and the family car. Drawing on the insights of health care professionals, children's advocates, and industry insiders, the film focuses on the explosive growth of child marketing in the wake of deregulation, showing how youth marketers have used the latest advances in psychology, anthropology, and neuroscience to transform American children into one of the most powerful and profitable consumer demographics in the world. Consuming Kids pushes back against the wholesale commercialization of childhood, raising urgent questions about the ethics of children's marketing and its impact on the health and well-being of kids.

  • Don't even think about blaming childhood and adolescent obesity on the advertising and marketing campaigns of McDonalds, Burger King, etc...Im disgusted at how quickly we, as Americans, are ready to place the blame and cuasation for any sort of problem on anything or anyone but ourselves. No one forces someone to eat fast food or lead sedentary lifestyles. Thats a choice the individual makes. Its readily apparent that people need to take responsibility for themselves and their kids. Stop blaming

  • @ChaseAmazing You are right blaming other people is not the way to solve these problems but you cant deny that there is mayor influence from media and corporations, You can say that most adults are allready brainwashed from childhood and they dont see what kind of effect it has on them and there children.

So i think corporations and the government do have a responsibility but they see this as on oppurtinity ( if there really was "justice" in my and your country those people should go to jail.

  • @mindinflow Well then the parents as adults should wake up and realize whats going on around all of us with corporate corruption, media etc.. The few who have realized whats going on and are trying to pass on the message are labelled as 'Conspiracy Theorists' so no excuse about 'already brainwashed'! All the info. is out there! Do your research!

  • @khanada1969 I agree totally

  • @ChaseAmazing If we really wanted to blame someone we just have to look into the mirror.

We are our worst enemys, Its not about blaming its about the information and the view this message brings.

There really is no blaming involved, we always had the choise and we still do.

Maybe when people see this video there choice will get more insight and will let them make the right decision for them selves.

  • Well I have just watched the whole thing and the biggest thing that comes to mind is how much more I appreciate my parents. If it hadn't been for them saying "No" so much, I might be a lot different today. The traits I like most about myself are my creativity and lack of need for material things. And probably the biggest reason I have them is because my parents raised me the way they did.

  • I am happy that my parent raise me good, less materials and paper imaginative and the tech I own is not latest model and some crap, it's just leftover goods to play with.

  • @Ignitey24 ever notice how everyone knows who obama is but never heard of joe biden or John Boehner. most kids in my school cant even name a single vice president or house speaker. let alone are congressman. now thats scary

  • to say it is completely the parent's fault is an ignorant statement. The only reason someone would make this claim is because they are ill informed on just how impressionable the human mind, both child and adult, really is. If a child is raised by dogs from birth, he will crawl on all fours, bark, and will not have the ability to learn language. He will even have i heightened sense of smell and hearing.

  • so, what i got out of thoc doc. are 2 things:

    1) thank God, we lived in comunism. we didn't have stuff. and even now we are so happy to find one of 3 brands of candys we had then. we are happy with little things.

    2) where did parents forgot to be parent? limit tv, talk about what's goin' on, whats right and wrong.

    I don't blame advertisers. I blame parents.

  • This is dat gangsta nigga shit. Gansta nigga shit is a good product.

  • Humm

  • the problem is at this stage is that parents were born into this mass marketing themselves; they don't think anything of putting their toddler in front of the t.v. for hours; it has to be regulated at least some; yes, parents should step up, but even if you completely control the home environment, they still have to go out in the world, to school, to friends houses, etc. the only food they get at school is junk; if you send them with a healthy lunch, they will just want what everyone else has

  • Parents are just as much to blame as the advertising companies are. They let the television play babysitter. They spoil their children. They never put their foot down, because they don't want to deal with their childrens' nagging. It's true that advertising has taken their job to inappropriate measures, but parents need to start raising their children and actually be parents.
