11:23 am Class 158830 DMU Departure plat 1 to Birmingham International
15:11 pm Class 158837 DMU Arrival plat 2 from Birmingham International
15:23 pm Class 158837 DMU Departure plat 2 to Birmingham International

This type of Express Sprinter is a diesel multiple-unit and still in use on some long distance routes like Holyhead - Birmingham. Most of these trains carry in Wales still the company's own blue and cream livery. Other variations of these trains can be found with other railway operators. The two departures that I filmed were very nice, because they happened on different platforms. Also I show the waste thrown by passengers on the track. Please stop doing this as Holyhead station itself is really lovely. Recordings were made on November 6th 2010.

  • What do you mean by *Remaining* there are lots of then so why do you say that?

  • @clagghead There is rumor that they will vanish on this line more and more. I just read it once in the Railway Magazine. Don`t know any other details. Sorry. Please correct me when it is not true. Thanks.

  • @railwaylive Most Holyhead services are 175 Coradias nowadays; however a 158 was working the Brum service yesterday.

  • @mocyoung Thanks for your comment.

  • @mocyoung This proves once again, not everything that's new is good.

  • Plus the refurb'd 158s have plugs, whereas the 175s don't.

  • @railwaylive No probs. I prefer working 158s (and 150s) to 175s. More room for my trolley*; plus those older units have more character and soul than the modern French/Brummie tin boxes that keep catching fire.

  • @clagghead most of them have gone to northern

  • @railwaylive Yes, most of them have now been replaced with the Class 175 Coradia Train. I've seen more of these trains (158 Super Sprinter) moreso around the Shrewsbury to Cardiff areas, and Birmingham New Street.

  • I normally prefer steam trains, but I like this video. I know, also, that Holyhead is a ferry port - it replaced Swansea on the B + I ferry line as a terminus from Cork, (Ireland). Thanks for the video :)
