I LOVE her father!! He knows she needs closure and will never be happy until she sees Bud for what he truly is. One of the most difficult things to do as a parent. They couldn't do this for her, she needed to do it so that she can move on, plus see how Bud turned out, and accept the fact that she needs to move on and not give him any power over her emotions. Her being raised to not give in and him being raised to do that very thing. You only have to look at the difference between the fathers.
