Billy Appling hears a lot about drop-shotting is for deep clear water. This was the day to test out or proof that myth like the Myth Busters. He was using a Fishbelly 3.5" Hawg Shad on a drop-shot rig with 8lb test fluorocarbon line (abate an old line, but a good one from Izorline - Made in Japan). He found a place with weeds around 6.4 feet of water.

After a few casts, we hooked on a monster bass matching the strength of the 8lb test line. What was going on in his mind was how to hoax the monster bass without having it break the line or make sure the fish would not get stuck in the weeds so he can bring it to the boat. For all the while, he was quiet and a bit nervous of losing the big fish while he was adjusting his drag on his reel.

Well, as you can see, he brought the monster bass on boat to show after seeing the big fish and almost having his heart beating like redlining the RPM on your sports car.

Next time when someone says that drop-shot is for deep clear water or small lure like the Fishbelly 3.5" Hawg Shad cannot catch big monster bass. Just show them this video! Have fun catching your big monster bass!

  • That's amazing. I caught a 8.7 pounder on 4lb test and the fish ran into the seaweed and got stuck in there too and i still brought him in so very nice job there.

  • @tomvang18 Congratulations and thank you!

  • Nice fish

  • @tommy12982

yeah,i thought the same while watching it.

  • Man, I wish we had bass here in Sweden!!

  • guys can say what they want about your weight estimate - most don't realize that a) this fish is spawned out, b) nobody would've argued with an 8+lb estimate if it still had its eggs, and c) they don't realize a bass will only hold up to about a half-pound of eggs maximum.

    do the math and voila.

  • @hiluss 42" pike 6lb test (no leader) walleye fishing in canada :)

lol that's awesome though. gotta love the surprises you get while fishing
