Total Lunar Eclipse February 20, 2008

Soon after sunset on Wednesday evening, February 20, skywatchers can watch the rising full Moon undergoing a total eclipse. Next total eclipse won't be until December 2010!

the moon is red during an eclipse beacause the same reason that the sky is blue:

the sun's light passes through the atmosphere and because the air acts like water in long distance ("brake" the white light to 6 colors) part of the light "brakes" in the atmosphere, which is the blue light. the red light only bents, and it bents to the direction of the umbra. There is only red (and fade) light over there, so as the moon pass through there during a total eclipse, it turns red.

i saw one of these last year it was pretty amazing specially wen the moon turns the redish colour. i took sum great pics of it!
