Czech World War II movie (1960) inspired by a true story from the Heydrichiad - the time of mass executions that followed Reinhard Heydrich's death (June 1942). Three students from a small Czech town are sentenced to death because of a silly joke on Heydrich's account. In the atmosphere of omnipresent fear, their high school professor is the only person that dares to do anything for their saving - not knowing that he would be deceived by a false promise.

The best work of director Jiří Krejčík with a staggeringly chilling atmosphere superimposed by music of Zdeněk Liška.

Starring: František Smolík, Ivan Mistrík, Jana Brejchová, Jan Šmíd, Alexandr Postler, Petr Kostka...
