In this scene from the movie The Social Network Mark Zuckerberg asks his friend, and future Co Founder of Facebook, Eduardo Saverin for The Algorithm which he needs to code Facemash. Eduardo then writes the algorithm on their harvard dorm room window. The algorithm is actually an Elo rating system used for ranking chess players.

It is supposed to make them seem really smart to the people who do not have the slightest clue on the subject.

For those of you feeling dumb, aka only Ekrocker47, no one is asking why he needs the algorithm. We were asking why he couldn't find it online, since it is based off a popular chess ranking methodology. Hence my original question asking why he didn't just google it. Why don't you read more carefully before you try to act so intellectually superior?

I find it funny how Eduardo has an algorithm for The Social Network and in The Amazing Spider-Man.

Yeah, but at the stage I'm at, all I need is my multiplication tables. I've had to use a pretty simple equation in one project once, however.

Most of it.Some things require complicated math to program though. Mainly encryption and 3d-graphics rotations(quaternions.)

The real math behind programming is pretty simple.

For those of you feeling dumb, here's why he needs the algorithm. The site is picking random photos of girls to compare so that the website is actually mixed up instead of linear. Mark only wants girls with the same score to be ranked, however. He doesn't want a supermodel to be compared to an ugly girl, so each time a girl wins a "match", their score is given a +1, and they'll only be matched against girls with equal or near-equal scores.

This coming from the guy who doesn't know the difference between "to" and "too." And why is my question stupid? A few people below have also raised this point. Get a life, cunt.
