The first of numerous videos about the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission located about 50 miles south of the famous Four Corners area of NE Arizona.
Founded in 1953, the Navajo Lutheran Mission in Rock Point, Arizona (Tsé Nitsaa Deezʼáhí) located in the heart of the Navajo Nation (Diné Bikéyah).
In April 2009, Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard became the executive director.
Rev. Deborah Hubbard is a Presbyterian pastor was named the pastor of the Lutheran Mission.
The husband and wife team have a great respect for Native American teachings especially when it comes to protecting the environment.
The couple believe its important to preserve and teach Navajo heritage and culture because its arrogant to think the supreme being only manifested itself (himself or herself) to whites.
The supreme being is called God by (Christian) whites and some Navajo.
The first presence in the Navajo creation story is the "Holy Supreme Wind."
Rev. Hubbard believes in a "mission in reverse" that essentially includes encouraging the Navajo to cherish and respect their heritage and culture - and in some cases rediscovering their Navajo Roots. More on that in future videos.
